Starting April 2011, TriSys ASP customers have begun benefiting from the provision of single instance dedicated servers running their recruitment desktop.

In this context, single instance means that one and only one session will be connected to a virtual server running in the cloud and hence this remote desktop is dedicated to one and only one user.

TriSys ASP is now comprised of hundreds of servers hosted at Amazon, Google and Microsoft:

Many of these servers are ‘back-end’ servers and are always on, providing 24x7 high power, resilient, scalable and secure services for authentication, backup, disaster recovery, security, database, e-mail, SMS, file, web and mobile.

The ‘front-end’ servers are remote desktops providing access to the recruiter end-user for delivering a highly productive recruitment desktop comprising Microsoft Windows operating system with Vista look and feel, Microsoft Office 2010, Internet Explorer 9, Adobe Flash, Adobe Acrobat Reader and of course TriSys Recruitment Software. It is these servers which are dedicated to individual TriSys ASP subscribers.

This is the new recruitment desktop running in a browser:

These ‘front-end’ servers are ‘virtual instances’ which mean that the operating system software is isolated from other instances running on the same hardware. Today’s cloud computing architecture allows hundreds of ‘virtual machines’ to run on massively powerful hardware. Virtual instances can be started on-demand, thus reducing the ‘carbon footprint’ of TriSys ASP during non-work time. Another benefit of dedicated TriSys ASP desktops is that each user is isolated from certain ‘rogue’ processes which can erode the performance of the desktop.

Here are some questions you may have:

Will I still be able to use the desktop in the same way as before i.e. e-mail and G-Drive?

Yes, the desktop will have a more modern look and feel and take advantage of the latest software from Microsoft such as Office 2010 and Internet Explorer 9. The back-end services are not changing and are still always available.

Do I connect the same way?

Yes, all connection mechanisms i.e. via a browser or the desktop shortcut will still work as normal. The only difference will be the additional time required to start the instance on first login at the start of the day as a result of dynamically provisioning the increased functionality available per server.

Is the new dedicated instance faster?

Yes, because you will be the only user on the server desktop, your computing resources are available to only you, therefore the processor and memory will be dedicated to your tasks. For the vast majority of TriSys ASP customers, this will result in improved performance. Users who will not notice an improvement in performance are those who have extraordinarily large E-Mail folders or who browse to heavy-duty web sites from within the ASP desktop. Best practice is to regularly reduce the size of your mail box and also to browse the internet outside the ASP remote desktop.

Does this new system cost more money?

No, TriSys ASP remains at the same price point. According to Gartner, the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a desktop could be as much as £3,600 per annum. The TriSys ASP desktop costs between £1,200 and £1,800 per annum (12 month and 1 month subscription respectively), resulting in savings of over 50% in TCO for recruitment agencies.
