User Options

Interface

The Interface options affect the interaction between the user and the application user interface:

Cache Form Definitions

All data entry, and many other forms in the application, have their form definitions (layout, fields, labels, positions etc..) stored in the database.

When this option is checked, the form definitions are retained the applications memory (a cache) rather than being reloaded from the database each time the form is opened.

It is recommended that this check box be checked in order to gain maximum performance.

Retain Form in Memory

As described above, data entry form definitions are held in the database to provide maximum flexibility. When loading forms however, the application has to draw the form and all controls dynamically.

When this option is checked, the form is retained in memory (cached) even after being closed. Performance is therefore greatly increased for subsequent loads at the expense of the use of more system resources i.e. memory.

It is recommended that this check box be checked in order to gain maximum performance on computers with 1Gb RAM or more.

Show Form Menu on Load

When this option is checked, the non-ribbon mode forms’ menu is displayed after the form is loaded. It is recommended that this option be checked at all times.

Personalised Menus

When this option is checked, the user is able to personalise and configure the application menus.

This is a legacy option only and is not often used.

Save & Restore Form Positions

When this option is checked, any forms which are open when the application is closed, will be re-opened when the application is next started. The forms will also be loaded in the same order of appearance.

When this option is checked, the application may start more slowly, so is only recommended when fast start-up is not necessary.

Restore Form Positions on Login

When this and the above option are both checked, the position of the main application is remembered and restored on next login.

This option is useful when using multiple monitors.

Auto Login

When this option is checked, the application obtains the windows login credentials and automatically populates the login name field at star-up and logs in without requiring the user to type a login name and password combination.

This option should only be used when both of the following conditions are satisfied:

The windows login mechanism is controlled by the secure Active Directory which is compliant with the US DoD (United States Department of Defence) C2 ‘Orange Book’ security regulations

TriSys login names are synchronised with active directory login names. Passwords do not need to be synchronised.

Multiple Form Instances

When this option is checked, multiple instances of the same entity form can be opened simultaneously. For example it may be advantageous to allow multiple requirement forms to be open to be able to deal with situations when dealing with two customers simultaneously.

The following field allows tight control over this option:

Maximum Instances: allowed to be between 2 and 16 maximum instances.

This option should be set only where the computer is highly powered and the user is comfortable in distinguishing between records in multiple open forms.

Load Dashboard on Startup

When this option is checked, the dashboard is loaded when the application is started.

This option should normally be checked for recruiters and managers, however system administrators or data entry staff may have little need for the dashboard.

Ribbon Interface

When this option is checked, the interface will assume the new ribbon instead of the legacy menu/toolbar.

See the User Interface section for full details on the ribbon.

Navigation Bar Groups

When this option is checked, the Navigation Bar operates in an identical fashion to the Microsoft Outlook list bar.

Large buttons are shown and grouped into sections, with buttons in other groups hidden.

This option should be set for novice users who prefer to see less system options whilst they learn how to use the system.
